Synod of the Diocese of Toronto, 3-5 May 2007

Like everyone else in this room, I worry about the threat that climate change and environmental deterioration pose to us, our children, and the future of the web of life. We are putting God's good creation and creatures at risk. Proclaiming the good news also means remembering the biblical injunction to care for Earth as good stewards.

We need to walk more lightly on earth.. Energy use is key. I want to issue a challenge to the diocese, and every parish. Examine your buildings, your operations, and your practices. Then take actions to increase their energy efficiency and to reduce their energy consumption.

We have to be the change we want to see. Then we may move our governments from half-measures to action commensurate with the crisis.
